Contamination of soils with heavy metals, particularly cadmium (Cd), is an increasingly alarming environmental issue around the world. Application of organic and inorganic immobilizing amendments such as biochar and gravel sand in combination with metal-tolerant microbes has the potential to minimize the bioavailability of Cd to plants. The …
Sand and gravel are usually mined in an open pit excavation. Power shovels, draglines, front-end loaders and bucket wheel excavators all aid in the mining process. Ideal conditions for mining are when the ground is moist or wet as it helps to avoid dust pollution in or around the mining site. The other method by which sand and gravel …

The required particle sizes. Sand for the production of concrete is subject to the relevant standards such as DIN EN 197-1 or DIN 1045-2. Sands usually have a grain size between 0 and 2 mm, while gravel or grit range between 2 and 8 mm. A standard cubic meter of concrete requires about 150 l of water, 300 kg of cement, 630 kg of sand, 580 kg of ...
E. Eugene. 16 posts · Joined 2009. #8 · Jan 16, 2009. I had used with soil both: gravel (4-6 mm) and river sand (1-2 mm). It seems no difference for water and tank's condition. Some difference is for plants: some of them really do better in substrate with smaller parts (like sand), especially - tiny ones. Like. tames.
Pool filter sand is a better option IMO because it's bigger than BDBS. My 40 breeder has PFS with aquasoil and root tabs as a first layer. My plants are doing really good with the exception of a few, but that's more of a lighting issue than the substrate. ACE hardware has PFS that's a really nice natural color.
