I was on my way to work yesterday, and passed by an antique shop selling a large grinding wheel, apparently manaully powered. I didn't have time to stop in, being on my way to work and all, but it certainly caught my attention. It appeared to have about a 24"-28"x4" stone mounted in a frame that looked like more recent construction.

The old wood foot grinder my Grandfather had, used a stone with as I recall a square hole in the center and the axle was square where it went through. It rotated in two wood post and had a handle on the open side that drove it from a foot pedal that was basicly a three inch wide board with a metal rod conecting the wheel and pedal.
