Dissolved boron in a brackish-water lagoon system (Chilika lagoon, India): Spatial distribution and coastal behavior
Abstract. Behaviour of industrially added boron in the well mixed Ambika river estuary of South Gujarat, India has been studied along with that of calcium and magnesium. The ratios of Ca : Cl and Mg : Cl at varying chlorinities were always within the normal ranges found in river water at one end and seawater at the other end.
The linear and exponential (natural log transform- Dissolved silicon in the Yaquina Estuary 565 ation) correlation coefficients are all <-0.94. In Figure 3 (f), r = o-99 if the two ocean endpoints are dropped. The non-linear distributions occur at Q values of 1.3 and 1.9 m3 s-1. Linear relations are present for Q as low as 3-5 m s-1 [Figure 3 (b)].
Abstract The tendency of boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes to associate in water is well known, and usually a cause for inferior fluorescence properties. ... gestive of no measurable addition or removal of boron in the estuarine region. The orders of magnitude differences in boron concentration between the river waters and seawater, and the conservative behavior of dissolved boron indicate that its major contributor to the estuaries sampled is seawater. Abstract. Approximately 25 percent of the dissolved silica carried by the Amazon River is depleted through diatom production in the inner estuary. Annual production of opaline …
Boric acid acts as a poison in the stomach of insects. It also affects the nervous system and the powder is abrasive to their exoskeletons. Boric acid also acts as a herbicide; causing the desiccation of plants. While boron is an essential nutrient for the growth of plants, excessive boron, boric acid, and borate salts uptake can cause toxicity ...
In the case of the Changjiang main channel the proportion of dissolved boron derived from silicate weathering varies from 40 ± 17% to 50 ± 10% (Fig. 5 a) whereas for the main tributaries (Fig. 5 b) the silicate weathering accounts between 45 ± 8% and 88% of the dissolved boron load. Boron (B) and Tungsten (W) are often found enriched in high-temperature geothermal waters associated with the development of subduction-related mafic to felsic arc magma. However, knowledge about the sourcing and transportation of these elements from such hydrothermal systems is sparse and ambiguous. Being the only active continental …

Detailed spatial and seasonal distributions of dissolved boron of a large brackish-water lagoon system (Chilika, India) have been investigated to infer its coastal behavior and controlling factors. Linear co-variation between boron and salinity of the samples from the monsoon season confirm conservative mixing of river and sea water …
The electronic configurationof boron is 1s 2 2s 2 2p 1 while valence states are possibly +4, +3, +2, and +1, the oxidation state +3 being by far the most common one. Its nonbonded atomic radius is 1.92 Å, its covalent radius is 0.84 Å, along with a strong electronegativity of 2.04 on the Pauling scale and an electron affinity of 26.989 kJ.mol −1 …
The high sensitivity of boron isotopes fractionation to water rock interactions make it a valuable tool to constrain chemical weathering processes. To have a global picture of the behavior of boron isotopes during chemical weathering of rocks at the surface of the continents, we analyzed the largest rivers for both the dissolved and suspended load.

Measurements of salinity and concentration of dissolved silicon were made on samples collected in the Test arm of Southampton Water in a number of surveys during 1968. The values show highly significant inverse correlations and fit closely to linear relationships. The distribution of dissolved silicon was controlled essentially by mixing …
Distribution and behaviour of boron andfluoride in Rushikulya estuary (South coast of Orissa) Tapan Rani Mahapatro S. Padhy. Environmental Science. 2004. Chlorinity varied from 1.063 to 14.486% in the estuarine water. The chlorinity showed positive correlation with boron and fluoride, which indicated similar source origin of the elements to the….
